Today’s developments show agentic commerce moving from isolated experiments to ecosystem-level enablement. Payment infrastructure players are embedding agentic logic in routing and risk. Major retailers are enabling checkout directly inside agent interfaces. And European PSPs are now exposing fully compliant payment integrations for ChatGPT-led transactions.

The pattern is clear: agents are becoming a first-class channel for commerce, supported not only by tech companies but by processors, PayFacs, and retailers. Merchant adoption will not depend on custom builds — the infrastructure layer is starting to make agents turnkey.

1. Payment infrastructure report highlights the rise of agentic risk automation

Digital Transactions examines how payment platforms are evolving toward automated, agent-driven workflows. This includes backend fraud detection that adapts autonomously, dynamic routing engines that optimise for cost and approval likelihood, and risk models that adjust configs without human intervention. Infrastructure players are signalling that manual risk operations will increasingly be replaced or augmented by agentic systems.

Why it matters for agentic commerce
Backend automation shapes the environment in which consumer and merchant agents operate. As infrastructure firms adopt agentic risk and routing, merchants will experience agent-led optimisation even without explicitly implementing agent functionality themselves.

2. Instacart launches instant grocery checkout inside ChatGPT

TestingCatalog reports that Instacart now supports instant grocery checkout directly within ChatGPT, enabling users to browse, select and pay without leaving the agent interface.

Why it matters for agentic commerce
This is one of the clearest consumer-facing examples of agentic commerce reaching operational readiness. Grocery is a high-frequency, low-margin vertical — if agent-based checkout works here, it will work almost anywhere. It also normalises the behaviour of “shopping through a conversational agent” rather than a website or app.

3. Mollie integrates full merchant payments capability into ChatGPT

IT-Finanzmagazin reports that Mollie has implemented a full payment integration for merchants inside ChatGPT, enabling compliant, processor-supported transactions through agent interfaces. Merchants using Mollie’s stack can accept payments initiated directly in ChatGPT without additional development.

Why it matters for agentic commerce
This removes one of the biggest barriers to adoption: merchants no longer need bespoke engineering to support agent-initiated payments. When PSPs operationalise agentic commerce, the ecosystem accelerates — especially in regions like the EU where compliance, liability and PSD2 constraints previously limited experimentation.
